SmartNav 4

This piece of technology that we were able to play with was the most fun and felt like something out of Star Wars. The SmartNav is a hands free mouse that allows the disabled student that does not have use of their hands or fine motor skills to be able to access the computer. It works by using the headgear that has a built in mouse that the head can navigate to the desired spot and click on what the user wants. Of course this device is great for relieving those with Carpal Tunnels Syndrome and any Repetitive Strain Injury because it takes all the stress of of the hands. The AT version of this software costs $399 that includes a dwelling feature which allows the user to stay fixed on a particular spot. To be able to click with the head cursor this version is needed. The head cursor is very accurate and this comes in handy when it is difficult for the user to control movements for a long period of time. The good thing about technology is that it benefits everyone although not intended for the non disabled population. I am not sure if this is good or not because we take everything we have as non disabled people for granted that others do not have the ability to do.
